GE Healthcare recalled two types of hospital infant warmer beds, which are devices that are designed to radiate heat and monitor the health of newborns.
The problem is that the side panels and safety latches can crack, break, or open unexpectedly if the warmers are moved using the plastic bedside panels instead of the maneuvering handles.
The company has received 338 complaints related to bedside panels and latches, including 2 infants who fell from warmers and fractured their skulls. No deaths were reported.
The recall involves all models of the Panda iRes infant warmer, which is typically used in labor and delivery units. The recall also includes the Giraffe warmer, which is used in neonatal intensive care units.
The recall affects 25,204 infant warmer beds that were manufactured and sold in the U.S. since 2007.
